ANSTEY'S COVE, TORQUAY, DEVON return to TBR
kids leaving school

As individuals pretty much all of my students were lovely, but put 15 of the little buggers in a classroom on a hot afternoon and, well, the nightmare begins.

walk to cove

So, just a few minutes from where I was staying it was heaven to discover Anstey’s Cove. I first thought its steep walk down was the reason there were few people – and, bliss, NO students – but I was wrong.

cliff walk

Thick woods went down to the shore and beautiful cliff walks took you to other remote, quiet places.

warning sign

Here is the real reason there were few people. The best beach used to have walkways to get to it but rock falls meant the council ripped them out. A very dangerous descent from the above cliffs was one way down, boat was another or from Anstey’s Cove - where the photo is taken - which meant you were slave to the tide.

empty beach Redgate Beach. This photo was taken on August Bank Holiday Saturday. Postcards from just a few years ago show it as a jam packed beach with all the ghastly sights and sounds that would go with it. Thank god for rock falls I say.
Anstey's Cove Beach hut/bar Though I am sure Anstey’s beach hut owner Lucy and her mum (in the foreground) would want a lot more trade coming their way, I, for one, delighted in the calm and tranquillity of this little cove in the middle of a heaving tourist industry. I hope it stays this way as being able to chill out in this day and age is getting to be near impossible.
photos taken with a Boots throwaway so quality a bit iffy.
